5 Things You Didn’t Know About… Ian Gallagher

People who know Ian Gallagher know that he’s a hard worker – whether it’s at his job as a material handler for Systex, or as a member of the BC Pride Board of Directors, or just in his own little backyard in Battle Creek. But there are some pretty interesting things about Ian you may not know. For example…

1. He’s from Jersey.

“I was born in Pine Hill, New Jersey which is near Camden. But back in 1989 when I was six, my dad was relocated for his job and we moved to Homer. I’ve lived in Michigan ever since.”

2. As a youngster, he had “sticky” fingers.

“When I was 4 years old I was at Sears with my parents, and I stole a whole box of business cards out of a display desk. Back then, my dream was to have my own business supply store. When my parents found the cards I had to take them back to the store and apologize.”

3. He’s a workaholic.

“I work as many hours at Systex as I can. Yes, I like my job, but the real reason I work so much is because I want to leave something behind. I don’t have kids of my own, so I want to help take financial care of my nieces and nephews after I’m not around anymore.”

4. He is an avid lover of animals.

“I have an orange tabby named “Pumpkin”, and German Shepard named “Piper”. Oh, and every month I make a recurring donation to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.”

5. He came out when he was 25.

“One of my biggest regrets in life was waiting so long to come out. I missed out on a lot. But right now, I really enjoy being part of the LGBTQ community.”
